Pine Decks
Pine is an affordable, versatile softwood that can be stained to complement different outdoor styles. Preservative treatment improves its resistance to decay and insect damage.
Typical lifespan
- Treated pine: Approximately 15–20 years when correctly installed and regularly maintained.
- Untreated pine: A substantially shorter lifespan. Untreated radiata pine has an above-ground natural durability rating of less than 7 years in exposed conditions and is unsuitable for long-lasting outdoor decking without preservative treatment.
Lifespan varies with moisture exposure, drainage, ventilation and maintenance. Oiling or staining alone does not replace preservative treatment.
